THE STORY BEHIND THE REBRAND

I’ve chosen to begin this blog with the story behind rebranding my flower business.

When I started my own business 5 years ago, although I already had a lot of experiences with flowers, I had absolutely ZERO business experience. (or money!)

So what did I do? I came up with the name “WABANA”, meaning “Japanese Flowers”, just because I wanted to be a bit different from others, not because I do Japanese-style flowers, such as Ikebana.

Luckily I had a close friend who is a talented photographer and designer, so I begged her to design a logo for me and she kindly did. Again, I didn’t put too much thought into it!

The name and the logo were done. I ordered business cards and did the website by myself, which I struggled with. In the end, I was happy enough to publish it.

As the years have passed, although the business was slowly growing, I started to feel the current branding didn’t really represent my business. Being in lockdown gave me the headspace and the precious time to discuss/plan my new branding identity with amazing Hels, who I found on Instagram. She turned out to be such a gem...I couldn’t have gone through this process without her. If you are rebranding or starting your own business, she is your woman! She not only designs logos but also takes beautiful photographs.

We chatted over Zoom and decided we should just call my business “ YOKO | BLOOMS”. After that, she provided me lots of colour palettes and different logo designs. I never thought my name was good enough to use for the business, especially because my surname is quite unusual. It didn’t occur to me that I could just use my first name, which is super easy to read/remember.

I absolutely love the look and feel of the logo and the colour palette- it’s just so me! I am really excited about the next chapter of my little business journey.
